Leaves: narrow 2-7" long stiff, spiraling up and away from stem
Flowers: inflorescence long spikelets in 2 rows in upper leaf axils
Fruits: brownish, beaked nutlet with fine barbed bristles
Habitat: wet; shallows less than 3' deep
