Etymology: Zizia: for Johann Baptist Ziz, german botanist of late 18th and early 19th century
Plants: erect, perennial, 1'-2' tall, branched, smooth forb
Leaves: basal leaves 2 times 3-parted, upper leaves mostly 3-parted; leaflets with fine, even teeth
Flowers: yellow, 5-parted; inflorescence a compound umbel, 10-18 umbellets of many, irregularly-stalked flowers, the central flower often not stalked; blooms May-July
Fruits: dry, splitting into 2 seeds, - fruit:

Habitat: full sun to shade; moderate moisture to wet; in sandy, loamy soil
