Plants: perennial, floating aquatic; stems creeping on soil forming mats under the water
Leaves: finely divided, forking 3-7 times, bladders scattered on the ordinary leaves, alternate, flattened, with a midrib
Flowers: yellow, 5-parted, 1/4" long, 2 lipped, lower lip twice as long as the upper, small spur half as long as the lower lip;
inflorescence usually 2-9 flowers in sagging clusters (racemes)
Habitat: lakes, ponds, ditches
