Etymology: Utricularia: from Latin utriculus, "a small bag or bladder," the common name of which is bladderwort
Plants: erect, annual/perennial, 3"-14" tall, aquatic forb; finely branched, buried roots with minute bladders
Leaves: small, mostly below the soil and usually not seen
Flowers: yellow, 5-parted, 3/4" long, 2 lipped, lower lip with a prominent, downward- pointing spur;
; inflorescence of 1 to 6 stalked flowers in a cluster (raceme) on a green to yellow-green, 4"-10" tall stalk, oblong bracts below the cluster with an additional pair of smaller bractlets;
; blooms July-Aug.
