Etymology: Trillium: Latin tres for three and lilium for lily
Plants: erect, perennial, 3"-6" tall forb
Leaves: rounded to the stalked base, tip usually not pointed, in 1 whorl of 3 leaves at the top of the stem
Flowers: white, 3-parted, 1" wide, petals sometimes pinkish at the base, elliptical with a blunt tip and much longer than the green sepals; flower solitary on 1/2"- 1 1/8" tall stalk; blooms March-April
Fruits: greenish/white, round to oval, 1/4" berry, pulpy inside
Habitat: moderate moisture to moist; woods; in limy, rich soil
Conservation Status: Threatened
