Etymology: Trillium: Latin tres for three and lilium for lily
Plants: erect, perennial, 8"-16" tall forb
Leaves: oval with a short-pointed tip in 1 whorl of 3 leaves at the top of the stem,
Flowers: white, 3-parted, 2" wide, petals elliptical with pointed tips, turning pink with age, longer than the green sepals; solitary, taller than the leaves on mostly erect, 2"-3" tall stalk; blooms May-June
Fruits: pale green, round berry, 1/2" wide, with 6 faint angles, no odor, mealy inside
Habitat: partial sun, shade; dry to moderate moisture; woods, forests; in rich, loamy, sandy soil
Conservation Status: Native
