Etymology: Thlaspi: from Greek thlaein, "to crush," from the flattened silicle, and the Greek name for a cress
Plants: erect, annual, 4"-20" tall forb, smooth, rank odor
Leaves: stalkless, base with 2 narrow lobes
Flowers: white, 4-parted, 1/8" wide, petals 2 times as long as the sepals; inflorescence a cluster (raceme) of stalked flowers; blooms April-June
Fruits: roundish, 1/2" wide pod, erect, winged all around, the notch at the tip deeper than wide
Habitat: disturbed sites
Hazardous: Careful, this plant is hazardous!
Conservation Status: Introduced - naturalized

One of our most common mustards, a European introduction first collected in 1897.
