Common in wet meadows, open marshes, fens, edges of bogs, lake shores, wet prairies, ditches, and wet edges of cedar swamps, and conifer-hardwood woods. Although highly variable, suggesting gene flow from other species, putative hybrids with other goldenrods are rare.
