Etymology: Rumex: the ancient Latin name for the docks or sorrels
Plants: erect, perennial, up to 5' tall, stout, smooth forb with many short branches; taprooted
Leaves: flat, narrowly lance-like to a tapering base
Flowers: greenish, 6-parted, stalk jointed near the base; inflorescence 8"-16" clusters with a few leafless branches
Habitat: swamps, wet woods
Conservation Status: Native
