Old fields, thickets, prairies, remnant savannas. This species is native south and east of Wisconsin and was first collected in 1966. There is the possibility that populations in remnant oak savannas in our southeastern counties may be native, but most collections have been made recently and from disturbed habitats. Plants can sometimes be quite large and smother other vegetation.
