Ditches, low areas along roads and railroads, along streams and riverbanks, river ledges and rocks, springy areas, wet cliffs and talus slopes, low meadows and clearings, springy areas, lakeshores, pond margins, beaches, clay bluffs, sandspits, alder thickets, willow thickets, shrub carr, sedge meadows, wet fields, rocky shores, marshes, wet prairies, dune swales, floodplain forests and swamps of black ash, black ash-white cedar, black ash-elm-balsam poplar, green ash-river birch-swamp white oak, silver maple-green ash-black ash-elm; upland woods of aspen, birch-aspen-red maple, oak-maple, hemlock-white cedar, maple-aspen-balsam fir.
