Etymology: Petasites: from
Leaves: basal, up to 15" wide, 5-11 palmate lobes, rounded to kidney-shaped in outline, whitened beneath, on long stalks
Flowers: head 1/2" long with white to pinkish disk flowers; inflorescence with heads in an open, branched cluster; blooms April-June
Fruits: dry seed on fluffy pappus
Habitat: moderate moisture to wet; forests, meadows
