Etymology: Packera: after John G. Packer, a Canadian biosystematist
Plants: erect, perennial, 4"-24" tall forb forming dense colonies
Leaves: basal leaves small, oval, tapering to the stalk, stem leaves mostly pinnately-lobed and getting smaller toward the top
Flowers: head 1/2" -1 1/4" wide with 0, 8 or 13 yellow rays more than 1/4" long, bracts (phyllaries) with purple tips; inflorescence clusters with less than 20 heads; blooms May-Aug.
Fruits: dry seed on fluffy pappus
Habitat: wet to moderate moisture; prairies, meadows; in rocky, loamy soil
Conservation Status: Native
