Etymology: Mirabilis: Latin for "miraculous or wonderful"
Plants: erect, perennial, 1'-3' tall forb; stems nearly smooth, branched toward the top
Leaves: oval with a heart-shaped base, stalks 1/4"- 1" long
Flowers: pink to purple, 5-parted, 3/8" wide, saucer-shaped, sepals petal-like; inflorescence of 3-5 flowers in branched clusters; blooms May-Aug.
Habitat: dry; prairies, disturbed sites
Conservation Status: Native
