Etymology: Liparis: from liparos for "fat" or "shining," referring to the smooth leaves
Plants: erect, perennial, 4"-10" tall forb, with a single stem
Leaves: basal, lance-like to elliptical, slightly folded along the midrib
Flowers: 6-parted, lip 1/8"-1/4" long, lip and petals yellowish-green; inflorescence a loose cluster (raceme) of 2-15 stalked flowers; blooms June-July
Habitat: wet to moist; forests, fens, meadows, ditches, shores
