Etymology: Grindelia: named for David Hieronymous Grindel (1776-1836), a German pharmacologist, physician and professor of botany at Riga, Estonia
Plants: erect, biennial/perennial, 4"-40" tall, smooth forb branched toward the top, base occasionally woody; taprooted
Leaves: alternate, dotted with resinous glands, toothed
Flowers: head 1"- 1 1/2" wide, sticky, 25-40 yellow rays; 1/2"-3/4" wide, yellow disk; inflorescence with many heads in branched clusters; blooms Aug.-S
Fruits: dry seed with no fluffy pappus
Habitat: sun; dry; disturbed sites
Conservation Status: Introduced - naturalized
