Etymology: Goodyera: for John Goodyer (1592-1664)
Plants: erect, perennial, 6"-14" tall forb; slender stems with 3-5 leaf-like bracts
Leaves: basal, oval to oblong, small, dark bluish-green usually with only white netting
Flowers: white, 6-parted, 1/4"- 2/5" wide, beak of lip less than half as long as the body of the flower;
inflorescence a 3 1/2" dense, cylindrical, spike-like cluster (raceme) of stalked flowers clustered only along one side of the less than 8' tall, sometimes spiraling stalk.; blooms July-Aug.
Habitat: dry to moist; woods, forests; in rich soil
