Etymology: Glyceria: Greek for "sweet" from taste of the grain

Low areas along trails, clearings, and swampy pockets in forests of maple-basswood-pine, white cedar-yellow birch-balsam fir, white cedar-ash, black ash, black ash-silver maple-yellow birch, oak, black ash-green ash-birch-maple, hemlock-yellow birch, elm-silver maple-green ash-swamp white oak, tamarack, sugar maple-beech. Also in alder thickets, lakeshores and lake swales, streams and riverbanks, marshes, along roadsides and railroads, sedge meadows, bedrock beaches, wet fields, wet cliffs, bogs, fens, disturbed wet areas. Common across most of the state, especially in the eastern half.
