Etymology: Geranium: from the Greek geranos, "crane," from the beak-like fruit
Plants: erect, annual/biennial, 6"-24" tall forb; stems spreading, branching, softly hairy; rank smelling
Leaves: palmately-divided to the base into 3-5 pinnately-lobed segments
Flowers: pink to red-purple, 5-parted, 3/4"-1" wide; inflorescence mostly a 2-flowered, stalked cluster from the upper nodes; blooms May-Oct.
Habitat: moist; shores, woods; in rich, limy soil often on dolomite
Conservation Status: Native
