Etymology: Froelichia: for Joseph Froelich, a German botanist
Plants: erect, annual, 2'-5' tall forb; stout and slightly square stems usually unbranched
Leaves: opposite, larger leaves mostly more than 2 1/2" wide
Flowers: white, tiny, 5-parted; inflorescence a 2" woolly, branched spike with flowers in 5-rowed spirals; blooms July-Sept.
Habitat: sun; dry; prairies, roadside; in sandy soil
Conservation Status: Native
