Etymology: Cypripedium: incorrect Latinization of ancient Greek words meaning "Venus's shoe"
Plants: erect, perennial, 16"-40" tall forb, hairy; stems leafy
Leaves: elliptical, clasping, heavily ribbed, hairy
Flowers: 6-parted; pouch 1"- 2" long, white with pink, streaked with dark red outside, purple inside; petals and sepals white, flat, oblong; inflorescence of 1-3 flowers; blooms June-July
Habitat: wet; woods, bogs, fens, conifer swamps of mostly cedar
Hazardous: Careful, this plant is hazardous!
