Etymology: Cryptotaenia: Greek cryptos for "hidden" and tainia for "a fillet," referring to concealed oil-tubes
Plants: erect, perennial, 1'-3' tall forb; stems branched, smooth; roots fibrous
Leaves: 3-parted with sharp, irregular teeth, sometimes lobed; lower leaves on long stalks
Flowers: white, 5-parted; inflorescence a 2" loose, irregular, compound umbels with few-flowered umbellets; blooms June-July
