Etymology: Cicuta: ancient Latin name of poison hemlock
Plants: erect, perennial, 2'-7' tall, emerging, semi-aquatic forb; stems often branched, stout, hollow, partitioned inside, often purple spotted; tuberous, sweet-smelling, deadly poisonous roots
Leaves: 2-3 times pinnately-divided; separate, broad, toothed leaflets
Flowers: white, 5-parted; inflorescence a 3" flat-topped, compound umbel; blooms June-Aug.
Fruits: rounded, ribbed, splitting into 2 seeds, - fruit:
