Etymology: Cicuta: ancient Latin name of poison hemlock
Plants: erect, perennial, 12"-40" tall, emergent aquatic; stems slender, hollow, partitioned inside; roots clustered, usually with thickened tubers; bulbets form in the upper leaf axils
Leaves: all on the stem, 1 to 3 times pinnately-divided into narrow, toothed leaflets
Flowers: white, 5-parted, sepals triangular; inflorescence a 2" compound umbel; blooms July-Sept.
Fruits: dry, splitting into 2 seeds
Habitat: wet; marshes, streambanks
