Etymology: Blephilia: Greek for "eyelash" referring to hairy fringe of the bracts and calyx-teeth
Plants: erect, perennial, 5"-36" tall, aromatic forb; stems square and fuzzy
Leaves: opposite, lance-shaped to ovate, mostly stalkless
Flowers: blue to pink with purple spots, 5-parted, 1/2" long, irregularly tube-shaped;
inflorescence 1 3/4" tall with 1-5 dense, rounded, head-like whorls crowded, but usually separated, in the upper leaf axils; blooms June-Aug.
Fruits: 1-seeded nutlet
Habitat: dry to moist; woods, prairies
