Etymology: Artemisia: referring to the Greek goddess Artemis who so benefited from a plant of this family that she gave it her own name
Plants: erect, perennial, 4"-16" tall forb shrubby at the bottom, forming mats
Leaves: alternate, silky, silvery, numerous, clustered at the base, 2-3 times 3-parted into linear lobes
Flowers: head yellowish; inflorescence branched clusters; blooms July-Sept.
Fruits: dry seed, narrowing towards the base amd with a truncated top
Habitat: sun; dry; prairies, cliffs
