Etymology: Adoxa: from Greek adoxos, obscure or insignificant
Plants: perennial forb, 2"-8" tall, delicate, with a musky odor
Leaves: alternate, basal leaves are long-stalked, 3-parted with lobed leaflets; one smaller, opposite pair are a bit above the middle of the stem
Flowers: yellow to green, 4-5-parted, 1/4"-1/3" wide, petals united; inflorescence a head-like, long-stalked cluster (cyme); the 4, 5-parted, side flowers at right angles, the top flower 4-parted; blooms May-July
Fruits: dry berry with distinct hard seeds
Habitat: shade; moist; often mossy forests and shaded cliffs
Conservation Status: Threatened
