Habitat: Semi-open edges of trail through scrubby Abies-Thuja-Populus balsamea-Picea glauca woods (more thicket than woods) on steep W-facing slope; soil thin silt loam underlain by red clay. Assoc.: Anemone virginiana, Cornus sp. (prob. C. sericea), Equisetum arvense, Eurybia macrophylla, Trifolium pratense, & Vicia americana.
Occurrence Remarks: Shrub with canes bristly & prickly from base to branchlets. Locally frequent.
