Habitat: Wisconsin River valley bluff, steep SW-facing prairie with Rhus glabra, Corylus americana.
Occurrence Remarks: Shrub 1.3m. tall, forming a tight clump of many stems to 0.8 cm. in diameter, the stems appear to be 3 years old, the first year's growth ring very wide and the third year very narrow. Voucher for wood speciments at Lw, MADw. Flowers dull white, past anthesis.
