Edge of woods (Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana, Quercus alba, Juglans nigra, Carya ovata) at top of Wisconsin River bluff and old ridge field planted to prairie.
Shrub 4m. tall, the stem 4 cm. in diameter; others of this species here in loose patch and evidently clonal. Cornus racemosa is common here but 1.5-2.5m. tall, finished flowering and with stems never this thick. Flowers white, musty-fragrant (1:30 P.M., sunny).
