Habitat: Edge of woods (Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana, Quercus alba, Juglans nigra, Carya ovata) at top of Wisconsin River bluff and old ridge field planted to prairie.
Occurrence Remarks: Shrub 4m. tall, the stem 4 cm. in diameter; others of this species here in loose patch and evidently clonal. Cornus racemosa is common here but 1.5-2.5m. tall, finished flowering and with stems never this thick. Flowers white, musty-fragrant (1:30 P.M., sunny).
