Habitat:
Area of slightly higher & drier, northern dry-mesic forest (canopy of Acer rubrum-Quercus spp., lower canopy of Pinus strobus) on shaded, weakly acidic ground with low peaty hummocks, embedded within extensive Pinus strobus-Acer rubrum swamp. Assoc.: Carex pensylvanica, Eurybia macrophylla (rare), Gaylussacia baccata, Gaultheria procumbens, Goodyera pubescens, Lycopodium obscurum, Monotropa uniflora, Osmunda cinnamomea, Schizachne purpurascens, Trientalis borealis, & seedlings of Acer rubrum, Hamamelis virginiana, & Querus macrocarpa.
Occurrence Remarks:
Rare; three separate saplings of 19, 25, & 27 mm D.B.H., forming a tiny clone.
