Habitat: Dry "barrens" on shallow soil over dolomite. The vegetation is sparse with scattered Quercus macrocarpa and Juniperus communis. The ground layer has much Andropogon scoparius with Carex richardsonii, Houstonia longifolia, Hypoxis hirsuta, Polygala senega, Scirpus clintonii, and Carex crawei as notable associates.
