Habitat: Woods on gentle slope, Populus tremuloides, Ulmus thomasii, Carpinus caroliniana, Corylus americana.
Occurrence Remarks: Treelet 8 m. tall, not forming a clump, the several stems branching from the single 10 cm. diameter lower stem. Edge of marshy area with Alnus incana ssp. rugosa. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw, the wood specimen from stem 6 cm. in diameter, ca. 13 years old. Leaves whitened below.
