Habitat:
Bog dominated by Sphagnum, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Kalmia polifolia, Ledum groenlandicum and Betula pumila, with scattered dwarf Larix laricina, Picea mariana, and Alnus incana ssp. rugosa.
Occurrence Remarks:
Dwarf tree 3 m. tall, with sparse, narrowly pyramidal crown. All cones hanging, the unopened ones at the top, purplish, persisting for many years, the recently opened cones reddish brown, the older ones dull grey-brown. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw.
