Habitat:
Young woods in fencerow between cultivated fields on gentle SE-facing woods of small valley. Prunus serotina, Carya ovata, Juglans nigra, Ulmus americana, U. rubra, Celtis occidentalis.
Occurrence Remarks:
Vine into tree, the lower stems loose, 2.4 cm. in diameter, but the bark thick and the xylem only 1.5 cm. in diameter, very difficult to count growth rings, but perhaps growing very slowly and this stem many years old; lower stem free, the upper branches forming a tangle firmly anchored on upper trunk and adjacent side branches, the tendrils on the youngest twigs with sticky pads, but the tendrils sometimes inserted into cracks in the bark and then the pads not obvious. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Leaves glossy below.
