Habitat:
Open areas with low prairie species (Hasteola suaveolens, Eupatorium maculatum, Cirsium muticum) and with some Cornus amomum, Salix spp., Alnus rugosa, Ulmus americana, the surrounding extensive deep marsh with Typha, Sagittaria, Sparganium and Cyperaceae.
Occurrence Remarks:
Shrub forming a clump of a few stems, 3 m. tall, apparently new stems from a stem 8 cm. in diameter which had been knocked over. Voucher for wood specimens at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Leaves lighter green beneath. Petioles and twigs red.
