Habitat: Base of S-facing Wisconsin River valley bluff, young woods of Juniperus virginiana, Prunus virginiana, Ulmus americana, U. rubra, U. pumila, Morus alba, grown up from former pasture, with scattered old open-grown Quercus macrocarpa.
Occurrence Remarks: Tree 18m. tall, 18 cm. in diameter, 22 years old, with 11 years of pale sapwood and 11 years of dark brown heartwood; bark finely furrowed, tight but slightly flaky. Voucher for wood speciments at Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Staminate inflorescences hanging, green, not yet releasing pollen.
