Habitat: On moss hummocks in Acer rubrum-Pinus strobus swamp with Alnus incana subsp. rugosa sub-canopy, assoc. with abundant mosses (incl. Sphagnum), ferns (Onoclea, Osmunda cinnamomea, Osmunda regalis var.spectabilis), sedges (C. debilis var. rudgei, C. echinata, C. leptalea), Equisetum sylvaticum, Trientalis borealis, & Vaccinium angustifolium & in surrounding wet depressions Carex folliculata, Rosa palustris, Symplocarpus foetidus, & Symphyotrichum puniceum. Springy peaty, weakly acidic ground with wet depressions, drainage paths. & streamlets.
Occurrence Remarks: In dense shade on wet moss hummocks. Immediately assoc. with Carex debilis, C. echinata, & Panax trifolius. Occasional.
