Habitat:
Old field, grassy (European cool season grasses. Poa, Agropyron repens) but without any native prairie plants, slightly rolling, sandy terrace above Wisconsin River floodplain. Evidently an old habitation site, with a few Syringa vulgaris, Salix "weeping willow", Acer ginnala, with more recent plantings of Caragana arborescens, Viburnum lantana, Corylus americana, Physocarpus opulifolius along edge of Pinus resinosa plantation.
Occurrence Remarks:
Shrubs in clumps, some with dozens of stems to maximum 3.5 m. tall, this stem 3 cm. in diameter, 10 years old, nearly the largest size before moribund and replaced by new shoots. Voucher for wood specimens in Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw, RSAw. Past flowering, but with some white corollas remaining.
