Habitat:
Fringe of trees and shrubs, Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, Pteridium aquilinum, Salix spp., Prunus pensylvanica, Cornus alternifolia. Level, open areas maintained in early stage of regeneration of Populus tremuloides for sharp-tail grouse habitat, edge of extensive Sphagnum bog.
Occurrence Remarks:
Shrubs forming a loose clump or colony, 3 m. tall, 4 cm. in diameter, ca. 6 years old. Twigs yellow-green. Voucher for wood specimens in Kw, Lw, MADw, MEXUw. Young unfolding leaves red, conspicuous from a distance (compare with no. 63087, S. bebbiana).
