Habitat: Old, unused quarry in Prairie du Chien dolomite, for crushed road gravel. Populus deltoides, Salix exigua and species more adapted to dry habitats such as Verbena stricta, Cornus racemosa, Eupatorium altissimum, Monarda fistulosa.
Occurrence Remarks: Shrub 2 m tall, a few-stemmed clump, the stems to 2.7 cm in diameter. Pith tan. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw, from the largest stems. Inflorescence branches reddish; fruit green.
