Habitat: Base of Wisconsin River valley bluff, well above the floodplain, edge of N-facing forest and steep road cut with younger trees than in the original forest of Quercus rubra, Q. alba, Ostrya virginiana, Carya ovata, C. cordiformis.
Occurrence Remarks: Tree 40 cm in diameter; bark snow white, with black marks near branches, papery-peeling. Crushed twigs with no scent. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw, the wood specimen from upper, +/- erect branch. Catkins not yet open.
