Habitat: Floodplain forest along river. With Quercus bicolor, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Betula nigra.
Occurrence Remarks: Large tree with multiple trunks. Both staminate and pistillate flowers open on the same tree, sometimes on the same twig. Inflorescence buds red but filaments pale yellow-green. Stigmas deep red.
