Habitat: Old gravel pit, with surrounding rim planted to Pinus resinosa, P. banksiana and Caragana arborescens, the native forest with Populus tremuloides, Betula papyrifera, Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Abies balsamea, Picea glauca. The pit mostly still open, gravel
Occurrence Remarks: Tight clump of much-branched stems, to 5 m tall, the largest stems to 15 cm in diameter; branches stiff and with many rigid thorny branchlets. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Undoubtedly originally planted, but apparently also spreading vegetatively and perhaps a few by seed. Fruit light yellow-green with red on insolated side.
