United States, Wisconsin, Richland, 3 mi. SE of center of Richland Center; floodplain of Pine River
43° 18' 10" N, 90° 20' 22" W; T10N R01E sec35
Floodplain of river, in grassy meadow surrounded by swampy woods, with Rubus, Solidago, Corylus americana, Achillea millefolium, Juniperus virginiana, Rumex acetosella, Poa, just a few dm above surrounding swampy area with Alnus incana ssp. rugosa, Salix, Carex, Phalaris arundinacea.
Single shrub with 4 stems, 2.5 m tall, 3.5 cm in diameter. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Inflorescences abundant; flowers yellow-green. Evidently a casual escape; it is rarely cultivated in Richland Country. I had never seen another plant of this here in 55 years of botanizing, but there is another one of similar size in a more brushy habitat 450 m. to the northwest. See also no. 61130 collected 6 June 2014 at 0.8 km ENE from here in fencerow between hill pasture and cultivated field.
