Habitat:
Along grassed waterway between flat agricultural fields, with Carex, Spartina pectinacea, Solidago canadensis, Veronicastrum virginicum; wet prairie at time of settlement in the 1850s. Decades ago mowed twice a year for hay, now somewhat overgrown.
Occurrence Remarks:
Extensive patch with many erect stems, 1.5 m, to 8 mm in diameter; stems with numerous relaxed prickles on lower part, but herbarium material (i.e. upper flower/fruit-bearing branches) nearly unarmed. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw. Hips green with reddish twinge.
