Habitat: Water 0.5-1m deep, along shoreline of homes and docks, calcareous lake, EC=680uS; soft, mucky bottom. Associates: Sagittaria cuneata, Nuphar variegata, Potamogeton natans, Najas marina, Myriophyllum sibiricum, Sparganium natans, Chara.
Occurrence Remarks: Leaves keeled, floating or emergent, stems to 1m long, mostly submerged, with inflorescence above surface; heads supra-axillary or axillary, inflorescence simple to branched(!); DNA phylogeny => S. emersum.
