Habitat:
Savanna on N-facing slope of moraine, in sandy soil. Beneath Quercus alba & Q. velutina; competing with grasses.
Occurrence Remarks:
Originally collected by R.R. Kowal, 1971 Oct 8, on a lichen field trip led by John W. Thomson; the 2 clumps had underground stolons highly developed. Population "Lawrence Creek", individual 2, grown in Test Garden 2, position F27. Voucher for chromosome count of Individual 2: 2n = 22 II (+ possible I in 2 cells); 18 cells counted (1972 May 16).
