Habitat:
In possibly virgin, open scrub savanna, with Quercus velutina, Pinus Banksiana, Prunus serotina saplings, Rubus occidentalis, Aquilegia canadensis, Geum triflorum, Lithospermum caroliniense, Helianthus strumosus, Heuchera Richardsonii, Hieracium caespitosum, Solidago canadensis, Poa pratensis, Vicia or Lathyrus, Panicum, Amorpha canescens, Houstonia. 2004 Jun 3: Plants in early anthesis. Bearing stolons and in very sandy soil. Population "Hamel Prairie". Specimen lost. 2005 Jun 13: Population recollected. Mid to late anthesis. Only a handful of flowering stalks in an area 5 x 5 paces & 1 clone 8 paces diagonally up slope (these with 1, 2 & 5 heads/stalk). Achenes glabrous. Hieracium caespitosum occupies the same niche as this taxon & may be competing it to extinction.
