Habitat:
Up and over the top of a steep WSW-facing, wooded hillside; soil thin and rocky, with a base of broken rock (chert, other limestone and quartz). Assoc.: Anemone, Cypripedium parviflorum v. pubescens, Dichanthelium, Helianthus, and Triosteum aurantiacum. Population covers roughly one acre, appears healthy, and is actively spreading.
